Are these meals suitable for vegans?
Yes! All the meals in every kit are 100% plant based and vegan.
Is there a gluten free option?
There is a low gluten option available on all recipe kits yes! The reason we say Low Gluten, not Gluten Free, is simply due to the fact that all the recipe kits, Low Gluten and Regular, are made in the same facility and therefore there is a chance of cross contamination. In a low gluten kit you can expect wheat based ingredients such as pasta and bread to be swapped for their gluten free counterparts. Where a simple swap is not appropriate, a thoughtful gluten free alternative will be considered, for example quinoa would be a simple alternative to couscous. If there are any questions, do email and we can provide a more detailed example of how we might modify a specific recipe for your needs.
What is the packaging?
All vegetables are sourced and delivered loose. Grains, herbs and spices and other dry ingredients are packaged in paper bags (like at most plastic free shops). Wet ingredients will either be tinned, in glass jars, or in plant based biodegradable plastic alternative portion pots (vegware). They are delivered by hand in hand printed paper bags or the occasional hand printed fully recyclable card board boxes. Bags are sealed with paper kraft tape and labels are either kraft tape or biodegradable stickers (vegware).
Are the ingredients organic?
Some ingredients are, and some are not. At this stage, in order to cater to as wide an audience as possible I am trying to keep costs down by not committing to 100% organic ingredients. If a 100% organic option is something you would be interested in, please do email as if there is demand it may be something we could consider.
How are they delivered?
The meal kits are hand delivered by the Plastic Freegan. The vehicle used is an electric and fuel hybrid car reducing delivery emissions that little bit more.
What if I’m not at home to collect the delivery?
Meal kits are usually delivered around midday on Mondays. If someone is not home the parcel will be left in a thoughtful safe space such as a porch, but if you have a specific safe place request you can simply add instructions to the delivery at checkout. However, due to the nature of the service and perishable ingredients at stake, we cannot offer a ‘try delivery the next day’ type service so you must be comfortable with the delivery being left in a safe place. If you contact us directly we can arrange a pick up from our base in Stithians Cornwall.
If I subscribe, how do I know what recipes I will get each week?
Each week subscribers will receive the same recipe kit as the individual orders from the website under the tab 'Upcoming Menus' so you can simply browse the website by date to see what set menus will be coming up on which dates. Plus you can follow us on facebook and instagram (@theplasticfreegan) where we post the next Mondays menu ahead of time.
Can I pause my subscription if I am going to be away?
Yes, we use a service called ReCharge to manage our subscriptions, so your own subscriptions can be managed there easily. However, you can always email us to let us know you will be away and we can hold on deliveries until you are back and want to re-start.
What is your favourite type of dog?
Big dogs are great fun, little dogs are cute, but rescue dogs are the best of all
